Terms of Service
Last updated: June 11, 2026
Agreement to Terms
By accessing and using Virtuosic ("the Service"), operated by Virtuosic LLC ("we," "our," or "us"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and all applicable laws and regulations. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Service.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account or use the Service. By creating an account, you represent that you are at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent or guardian's consent to use the Service.
License to Use
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Virtuosic for personal practice and music education purposes. Premium features require an active subscription. This license does not include the right to modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service.
Subscription Plans and Pricing
Virtuosic offers the following subscription tiers:
- Free: Core tuner and metronome features at no cost, no account required
- Premium: $120/year or $14.99/month — includes all practice tools, analytics, cloud sync, and AI coaching
- Studio: $250/year or $29.99/month — includes all Premium features plus studio management tools for music educators
Auto-Renewal
All paid subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annually) unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You will be charged through the same payment method used for the original purchase.
- Apple App Store purchases: Manage or cancel subscriptions in your device's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions. Apple's terms and refund policies apply.
- Google Play purchases: Manage or cancel subscriptions in the Google Play Store app > Payments & subscriptions. Google Play's terms and refund policies apply.
- Web purchases (Stripe): Manage or cancel subscriptions from your Account page at virtuosic.org/account.
Cancellation
When you cancel a subscription, you retain access to premium features through the end of your current billing period. After that period ends, your account reverts to the Free tier. Your data is retained and accessible on the Free tier, but premium features will be locked.
Refunds
- New subscribers may request a full refund within 7 days of their initial purchase by contacting contactus@virtuosic.org.
- After 7 days, no refunds are provided for partial subscription periods.
- For Apple App Store or Google Play purchases, refund requests must be submitted through the respective platform's refund process.
- EU residents: You have a 14-day right of withdrawal from the date of purchase. If you have already accessed premium features during this period, a proportional amount may be deducted.
Free Trial
New users who have not previously subscribed are eligible for a 7-day free trial of Premium features. A payment method is required to start the trial; your subscription begins automatically at the end of the trial unless you cancel. You can cancel any time from your Account page. Free-trial eligibility is determined by Apple or Google at the time of purchase and is enforced at their platform level; each Apple ID and each Google account is eligible for at most one free trial of our Premium subscription.
Purchases Without an Account
In our iOS app, you may start a Premium subscription (including the 7-day free trial) without first creating a Virtuosic account. Apple handles authentication and billing through your Apple ID. We receive a cryptographic receipt from Apple and unlock Premium features on the device you purchased on. Studio tier subscriptions are not available without an account.
When you purchase without an account, your subscription is associated with your device and the Apple ID used to make the purchase, not with a Virtuosic user record. You can later create a Virtuosic account to extend your subscription to other devices, virtuosic.org, and enable cloud sync of your practice data — your existing purchase will be linked to that new account automatically. If you delete and reinstall the app before creating an account, you can recover your subscription on the device via the “Restore Purchases” button on the Account tab. Practice data, notes, and settings made before account creation are stored only on the device; we cannot recover them if you uninstall the app without first signing up.
AI-Generated Coaching
Virtuosic may provide AI-generated practice coaching and insights based on your performance data. This content is generated by artificial intelligence and is intended as general practice guidance only. It is not a substitute for instruction from a qualified music teacher. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or pedagogical soundness of AI-generated coaching content.
Your Content and Data
You retain ownership of your practice data, notes, and other content you create within Virtuosic. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and transmit your data solely to provide and improve the Service. Anonymous, aggregated data derived from your usage may be used as described in our Privacy Policy.
Lesson Recordings
The Lessons Marketplace lets students and instructors meet for live one-to-one video lessons. When a lesson is booked, a recording of that lesson may be created in one of two ways:
- Lessons booked on behalf of a minor (a parent or legal guardian booking for someone under 18) are always recorded. This is a child-safety requirement: the parent, the instructor, and Virtuosic admin retain access to the recording for review during the retention period below.
- Adult lessons are not recorded by default. The student may opt in at booking time using the “Record this lesson” checkbox. If opted in, both the student and the instructor receive access to the recording for the retention period below.
When a lesson will be recorded, every participant sees a “This lesson is being recorded” notice when joining the lesson room. Recordings capture video and audio from the lesson room only — they do not capture anything from your device outside of the active call.
Retention. Recordings are stored on Virtuosic-managed infrastructure (Cloudflare R2) for 90 days from the lesson date, after which they are automatically deleted. The 90-day window is extended if a billing dispute is opened on the lesson, and snaps back to the original boundary when the dispute is resolved. Virtuosic admin may force-delete a recording earlier in response to a valid DMCA notice or law-enforcement request, in which case all parties lose access to that recording immediately.
Use of recordings. We use lesson recordings only to (a) provide the playback and download surfaces described above, (b) investigate disputes opened by either party, and (c) comply with valid legal process. We do not use lesson recordings to train AI/ML models, target advertising, share with third parties for marketing, or feature in promotional material without an additional, written consent from every adult participant.
Instructor obligations. Instructors on the Lessons Marketplace must accept the recording terms before they can take any recorded booking. Instructors are responsible for treating recordings as confidential student material and may not share, post, or further distribute recordings outside the Service. An instructor who does not wish to teach minors may set their profile to decline minor bookings; they will then never receive a mandatory-recording booking.
By using the Lessons Marketplace as a student, parent, or instructor, you consent to the recording terms described in this section. State-level recording laws (including two-party-consent jurisdictions) are satisfied by the in-room notice at the time of joining the lesson room and by the affirmative checkbox at the time of booking.
Booking on Behalf of a Minor
If you book a lesson on behalf of someone under 18, you represent that you are the minor’s parent or legal guardian and that you have the authority to consent on their behalf. At the time you save a minor profile, you provide affirmative parental consent to the specific terms shown on screen; we store a cryptographic hash of the exact text you saw so that we can prove which version you agreed to.
We minimize the personal information we collect for minors. We do notask for the minor’s last name, email address, date of birth, school, or address. We collect only the minor’s first name (used as the join-room display name) and an age band (under 13 or 13–17). The minor does not have a Virtuosic account; all interaction with the platform — booking, messaging the instructor, leaving reviews, downloading the recording — is performed by you, the parent.
You may revoke a minor profile at any time in Account → Minors. Revocation does not retroactively cancel past bookings, but the minor profile will no longer be selectable for new bookings, and any recordings already created will continue to age out on their original 90-day retention boundary unless you ask Virtuosic admin to delete them earlier.
Account Deletion
You may permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Account page. Deletion is immediate and irreversible. Anonymous, aggregated pitch data that was contributed to the research database prior to deletion cannot be retroactively removed, as it is not linked to your identity.
If your account uses Sign in with Apple, deleting your account also revokes our Sign-in-with-Apple authorization at Apple. After deletion, your Apple ID will no longer show Virtuosic in the list of apps using your Apple ID, and you will not be auto-prompted with our app on future device launches.
Subscription billing is managed separately by Apple, Google, or Stripe depending on where you originally purchased. Deleting your Virtuosic account does not automatically cancel an active subscription on those platforms. To stop being billed, cancel your subscription via your iOS Settings → Subscriptions, the Google Play Store, or your Virtuosic Account page (for Stripe purchases) before deleting your account. If you delete your Virtuosic account without canceling and later create a new Virtuosic account on the same Apple ID or payment method while the subscription is still active, the new account will inherit the existing subscription.
Account Merge
If you accidentally created two Virtuosic accounts — for example, one with email and password and another through Sign in with Apple using a privacy-relay email — you may consolidate them through the Account → Merge Another Account page. You authenticate to both accounts (with the other account's password or via an email-verification link to the other account's email address) and confirm the merge.
When you merge, all in-app purchase records, practice history, notes, and session reports from the source account move into the target account (the one you are signed in as). The source account is then permanently deactivated: its email and password are cleared, the row is marked inactive, and future sign-in attempts with the source account's credentials are blocked.
We retain a small audit record of every merge (timestamp, source account's email at the time of merge, source Apple user identifier where applicable, and a count of moved records) indefinitely for security, abuse-prevention, and dispute-resolution purposes. Merges cannot be undone. If you need to recover data from a merged account, contact us at contactus@virtuosic.org before initiating the merge.
